PSA Breakbulk and Fednav Celebrate 30 Year Jubilee

In late 1994, PSA Breakbulk, then operating under the name Coil Terminal, began a strong partnership with Canadian shipping company Fednav. In this partnership, PSA Coil Terminal served as Fednav's European hub for cargoes shipped between the Saint Lawrence Seaway and the Great Lakes region in North America and Northern Europe.

To mark the important 30 year milestone of the partnership, approximately 150 guests gathered to celebrate at the Castle of Brasschaat (north of Antwerp) on 13 March 2025.

Over time, the partnership between Fednav and PSA Breakbulk has only grown stronger. Today, PSA Breakbulk handles around 45 Fednav vessels annually, handling a total of 550,000 tons of all types of steel cargo, including coils, skidded coils and long steel, mainly serving food packaging, automotive and construction industry in North America.

The future of the relationship is looking bright as well. At the event, Dennis Verbeeck, PSA’s General Manager Non-Container, announced the recent signing of a multi-year contract, in which PSA Breakbulk continues to serve as Fednav's Northern European hub.

Established in 1944, Fednav is Canada’s leading dry bulk shipping group, operating 120 dry bulk carriers, including Supermax and Panamax vessels. The organization specializes in navigating the Canadian Arctic, the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence Seaway. Fednav has been active in the Port of Antwerp-Bruges for over 66 years.

The collaboration started in 1994 when the company transferred its stevedoring tasks from Hessennatie Gylsen to Noordnatie, which later became PSA Breakbulk in 2010. In 2002, Fednav ships began calling at the aptly named ‘Coil Terminal’, where they continue to berth today.

Reflecting on the cooperation, Dennis Verbeeck stated: “Through all these years of change and evolution, what truly stands out is Fednav’s unwavering commitment as a partner” adding “the foundation of our strong partnership lies in mutual operational trust, deep knowledge of cargo and vessels and clear instructions from shippers.”

Congratulations to everyone who allowed this strong partnership to thrive over the years. Your service and dedication is what makes this relationship lasting.
